Sports Authority of India Postpones The Khelo India Youth Games 2021 due to Covid-19
New Delhi: The Khelo India Youth Games 2021 were postponed on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) took the decision after reviewing the surge in the Omicron variant and the ongoing coronavirus cases in the country.
The Khelo India Youth Games 2021 were scheduled for November-December 2021. However, the dates were rescheduled to February, fearing a possible third wave outbreak of the coronavirus in the host State of Haryana and the adjoining areas.
The national youth championship was rescheduled between February 5 and February 14, 2022, in Panchkula, Ambala, Chandigarh, Shahabad, and Delhi. The opening ceremony will be conducted in the Panchkula district of Haryana.
Around 10,000 athletes are expected to participate under 25 sporting disciplines in the 4th edition of the youth championships, including 5 indigenous sporting events.
The last edition of the Khelo India Youth Games was held in Guwahati, Assam, in 2020. The Haryana State had won the first edition of the Games in 2018.
The SAI will announce the fresh dates of the championship after consulting the stakeholders.
