Heatwave Intensifies in Tamil Nadu’s Interior, Limited Rain Likely
New Delhi: Heatwave is set to intensify across interior parts of Tamil Nadu over the coming days, with temperatures expected to rise above normal levels, even as light showers are forecast in isolated regions.
The forecast signals continued discomfort for residents, particularly in inland districts already experiencing high heat conditions.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has predicted that the maximum temperature would stay around 2-4 degrees Celsius higher than the average in the inland regions of Tamil Nadu. Heatwave conditions are possible in isolated locations. The coastal regions are likely to experience slightly milder weather owing to the sea breeze effect, but the humidity level will be high.
In contrast, parts of southern and western Tamil Nadu may see light to moderate rain showers until April 21, providing partial respite from the hot climate. Moreover, thunderstorms with heavy gusts of wind might occur in isolated areas, especially in the evenings.
Authorities have advised that individuals should refrain from excessive sun exposure in the afternoons and keep themselves well-hydrated. Elderly people and children fall into the category of high-risk individuals who can suffer from dehydration and heat stroke.
The increase in temperatures is due to the occurrence of drought-like conditions and the presence of intense solar radiation. Weather experts also say that although pre-monsoon activities may witness some rain showers, relief is unlikely to occur anytime soon.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is continuing to monitor the situation closely, with further expected as the conditions evolve. Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions as the heatwaves intensifies across the state.
