New Delhi: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday highlighted a major expansion of railway infrastructure in Odisha, stating that projects worth over ₹90,000 crore are currently under execution across the state, marking an unprecedented push to enhance network capacity and connectivity.
Speaking during a visit to Bhubaneswar, Vaishnaw said the scale of investment reflects the Centre’s commitment to strengthening both passenger and freight infrastructure. He also reviewed the ongoing redevelopment of Bhubaneswar railway station, stressing the need for timely completion and high-quality execution. The upgraded station is expected to offer modern amenities and improved passenger comfort as part of efforts to transform stations into world-class hubs.
The minister noted that Odisha has received a record railway budget allocation of ₹10,928 crore, significantly accelerating project execution. As part of the modernisation drive, 59 stations in the state are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, aimed at creating passenger-friendly infrastructure with enhanced facilities.
Highlighting the broader vision, Vaishnaw said all 30 districts of Odisha are being brought under rail connectivity, a move expected to drive inclusive growth by linking remote and interior regions with the national network.
Among the key projects, the proposed four-line coastal rail corridor from Balasore to Berhampur is set to significantly boost capacity along the state’s coastline. The corridor is expected to improve both freight and passenger movement, reduce congestion, and support economic activity in the region.
The minister said these initiatives will play a crucial role in strengthening regional connectivity, supporting economic development, and integrating Odisha more closely with India’s expanding railway network.
