Tremblor: 2 Earthquakes Jolt Jammu and Kashmir
New Delhi: Two earthquakes with magnitude intensity of 3.2 and 4.0 on the Richter scale jolted Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. The tremblor struck the Pehlgam district and the Gulmarg district of the Union Territory, respectively.
A mild earthquake of intensity 3.2 on the Richter scale struck the Pahalgam district of Jammu and Kashmir during the early hours of Wednesday.
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) shared a seismograph on Twitter that highlighted the adjoining affected areas.
Informing about the tremblor, the NCS tweeted, “Earthquake of magnitude 3.2 occurred on February 16, 2022, at 05:43 am IST on latitude 33.90 and longitude 75.23 with a depth of 16km located 15 km South-Southwest (SSW) of Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India.”
Another tremblor of 4.0 magnitude hit the Gulmarg district around 11 am on Wednesday.
“Earthquake of magnitude 4.0 occurred on February 16, 2022, at 11:08 am IST on latitude 36.18 and longitude 73.31 with a depth of 15 km located 256km North-Northwest of Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, India,” the NCS tweeted.
There has been no damage to property or casualties so far.
