Ahmedabad: National Vaccination Day is celebrated every year on March 16 to raise awareness about the necessity of immunizations. The day also commemorates India’s victory against the poliovirus.

National Immunisation Day is another name for National Vaccination Day. The day raises awareness about the necessity of immunizations throughout the country. This year’s commemoration is significant since the government began its largest COVID-19 immunisation campaign earlier this year. The country’s population has already surpassed 30 million.

People realised the importance of vaccination in public health during the COVID-19 pandemic when immunisation was the only method to protect ourselves from a devastating disease.

History

The day acknowledges Indian government’s initiative: Pulse Polio Campaign. The government took the initiative to eradicate polio from the country. Children aged 0 to 5 years old were given two oral drops as part of the programme.

The last incidence of polio in India was recorded in West Bengal in 2011. India was proclaimed polio-free in 2014. Immunization has without a doubt proven to be the most important technique in managing and eradicating life-threatening infectious illnesses over the years.

Vaccination and Its Importance

It is the process of making a person immune or resistant to an infectious illness, which is usually accomplished by the injection of a vaccine. Vaccines, on the other hand, are drugs that boost the body’s immune system to protect a person from illness or disease in the future.

Immune systems are known to be boosted by vaccinations, which trains the body to resist dangers. As a result, many people think of vaccines as a means to strengthen your immune system and the way your body reacts to external objects.

Theme and Significance

Vaccines Work for All is the topic for National Vaccination Day 2022.

Vaccines aid in the prevention of illnesses that can be harmful or even fatal. Vaccines minimize the risk of infection by assisting the body’s natural defenses in the development of disease immunity. In the last several decades, vaccines have become a significant weapon in the battle against severe illnesses such as tuberculosis, tetanus and others.

Vaccines have saved the lives of many people. National Vaccination Day, as a result, emphasises the necessity of vaccinations in today’s society and cannot be overlooked. Various vaccination initiatives are underway across the world to combat serious or fatal illnesses such as smallpox, COVID-19, and others.
