New Delhi: According to the Karnataka State Education Minister, B.C. Nagesh, the Bhagavad Geeta, will become a part of the school syllabus from the current academic year onwards.

The text will be a part of moral science across government schools in the state.

“Moral education is the need of the hour, and hence, stories from Ramayana and Mahabharata which helps inculcate moral qualities will be included in the syllabus,” Nagesh said.

“There will be no changes this academic year. The department is thinking about Moral Science for the year 2023-24,” Nagesh told the media.

“Bhagavad Gita is not only for the Hindus- it is for all. If experts say, it will definitely be introduced,” he said.

“Bhagavad Gita is not a religious practice or process. There is nothing wrong with people of different faiths listening to the Bhagavad Gita, which guides life,” Nagesh added,

According to the minister, the experts will design and decide the syllabus and subjects for Moral science. It is one of the advantages for students who will study the text as experts will carefully examine the text.

Karnataka is the second state after Gujarat to introduce Geeta as course curriculum.
