Installation of new sculptures in Ahmedabad transforms these crossroads

Sculptures Made Of Scrap And Waste To Come Up At Nine Junctions As Part Of Beautification Of The City; They Will Also Give A Message On Waste Disposal, The civic authorities recently unveiled new attractions in the city. The installation of new sculptures in Ahmedabad has enhanced the public art scene and elevated the overall beauty of the urban landscape.

At the prominent Usmanpura Char Rasta, a striking sculpture touching a height of 23 feet stands tall. Depicting a boy holding a kite high above his head, this piece captures the city’s, particularly deep affection for the annual kite festival. Crafted from a combination of railway track wastage and 16 mm metal sheets, this five-ton sculpture captivates all passersby.

Not far away, near Panchvati, a captivating sculpture of a black bull has been installed. This artwork, weighing four tons, adds to the area’s allure, becoming a noteworthy landmark. What makes this piece unique is its creation from water treatment waste pipes. To further enhance the appeal, colorful lights will be installed, illuminating these sculptures and adding to their visual charm.

The AMC has planned structures made from waste and scrap at nine junctions in Ahmedabad as part of city beautification. The brainchild of city civic chief M Thennarasan, mild steel pipes, valves, plates, other fittings and the like will be used to build the structures that highlights the Wealth out of the Waste concept.

The sculptures installed at the Airport Circle, near Pushpakunj, Maninagar, Usmanpura Cross Roads, Commerce Six Roads, Panchvati Cross Roads on CG Road, Pakwan Cross Roads. It will give a unique identity like the Ellisbridge that is made of iron and the Statue of Unity. It also gives a message of proper disposal of waste. “The scrap being used in making the sculptures is 25 years old and the design, shape and forms to the scrap will be given by a city-based sculptor. ,” an AMC official told.

Knowledge Hub sculpture is made at commerce college 6 roads in Ahmedabad city. This sculpture shows various streams of education and knowledge. This sculpture which consists of a large human head in an artistic way is meant to promote knowledge and education. This sculpture is made from scrap material. It is the world’s largest human head made out of scrap material. The weight of this is 7 tonnes and the size is 14’x14’x15’.

• Heritage Sculpture

On the road from gate number 1, Kankaria lake, Ahmedabad, to pushpkunj, a sculpture depicting Ahmedabad’s identity, a kite and roll of thread which is used in the festival of Uttarayan. This sculpture also has a child with spectacles blowing trumpet/flute. This will highlight the festival of Makarsankranti. The scultpture weighs 5 tonnes and is 13’x19’x19’ feet. This sculpture is made out of pipes from water treatment waste and electrical cable rolls scrap.

• Knowledge Hub

• Bull

At the Panchvati crossroad in Ahmedabad city a sculpture of a bull is placed. This sculpture is made out of a scrap material and indicates stock market. Gujarati people are at the forefront in stock market. C.G. road is a centre of commerce in Ahmedabad and hence this sculpture is placed there. The sculpture weighs 3 tonnes and its size is 20’x8’x10’.

• Kid Kite flying

A sculpture of a kid flying a kite has been placed at Usmanpura Crossroad to depict the festival of Uttarayan which is a major festival. Makarsankranti festival is the identity of Ahmedabad. During this festival different programmes are organised in Gujarat. In this sculpture. The sculptor has shown a how children participate in this festival with great joy. The weight of the scultpture is 5 tonnes and its size is 21’x5.3’x19’. Let my kite fly high in the clouds.

• Mahatma Gandhi

A sculpture of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhiji, has been installed at Ahmedabad airport junction. This sculpture greets people who are entering Ahmedabad. This is made from scrap material of AMC. This sculpture is a symbol of truth and nonviolence.  The sculpture weighs 8 tonnes and it is 21’x5’x10’.

• Horse

A sculpture of horse is installed Indira bridge in Ahmedabad. This sculpture is a symbol of courage. Ahmedabad is the economic capital of Gujarat. This economic capital is going ahead with Gandhinagar. Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar are twin cities. One city is the economic capital and the other is a political capital.  This symbol of horse is like a bridge between two cities. It weighs 15 tonnes and is 24’x6’x20’.

• Pelican bird and Asian Paradise Fly Catcher

On the Pakwan crossroad on Sindhubhavan road of Ahmedabad the sculpture of a pelican has been installed. This bird is a symbol of courage. The weight of the pelican bird is 2 tonnes and its size is 12.5’x4.5’27’. The weight of the Asian paradise flycatcher is 3 tonnes and its size is 20’x6’x20.

• Flowers

A sculpture of flowers has been put at the entry of national highway expressway in Ahmedbad. This sculpture is made out of waste material and it depicts a warm welcome to people entering the border of Ahmedabad. The sculpture weighs 10 tonnes and its size is 16’x6’x24’
