China Conducts more than 100 military drills in six months: Report
New Delhi: A consistently rising military power of China could be a terrible challenge in the Asia region and for the western countries also. The latest report published by the European media, alerting the world to take advanced steps to prevent future challenges – which may raise by China’s Communist government.
European media reported that “the Chinese military held around 100 drills near the Indian border in the Tibetan region.”
Displaying a lack of intent to de-escalate tensions with India, the development comes just a week after China launched a bullet train service between Tibet’s capital Lhasa and Nyingchi, a border town strategically located opposite Arunachal Pradesh.
Relations between the New Delhi government and the Beijing government – disturbed at the top level – after some Chinese soldiers allegedly attacked Indian security forces in Galwan, Eastern Ladakh. China increased its presence along the border following the Galwan Valley incident in June last year.
The Chinese military operations continued despite the Covid-19 pandemic wreaking havoc in the South Asia region, conducting high-altitude drills involving over 1,000 troops from 20 units in early June.
According to the report published by European media, “China has rapidly improved infrastructure in areas close to the Line of Actual Control, its de facto border with India. It has expanded the railway network connecting the remote parts of Tibet with mainland China, a move to assert Beijing sovereignty and supremacy and counter Western narrative in support of the Tibetans’ right to self-determination,”
Spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs – India, Arindam Bagchi last week said, “Last year’s Chinese actions violated bilateral pacts that require two sides to respect LAC, keep troops at a minimal level. Amassing of a large number of troops along border areas, trying to unilaterally change the status quo along LAC disturbed the peace. It is well recognized that Chinese actions last year have seriously disturbed peace and tranquillity in border areas.”
The 22nd meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) was held between both sides last Friday, where both sides agreed to maintain “stability on the ground and prevent any untoward incident” in eastern Ladakh.
