Tremblor: A 5.1 magnitude earthquake jolts Afghanistan
New Delhi: A mild tremblor measuring a magnitude intensity of 5.1 on the Richter scale jolted the Fayzabad district and adjoining districts of Afghanistan during the early hours of Tuesday, October 11, 2022.
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) shared a seismograph on Twitter, highlighting the affected areas. The epicentre was said to be located about 89 km East-Southeast of the Fayzabad district.
The NCS informed about the tremblor and tweeted, “Earthquake of magnitude 5.1 occurred on October 11, 2022, at 04:53 IST on a latitude of 36.91 and longitude 71.53 with a depth of 112km located 89km ESE of Fayzabad, Afghanistan.”
The region lies close to the Afghan-Pakistan border. According to the NCS, the effects of the tremblor were also felt in the Indo-Afghan border region.
The region falls under an active seismic zone and experiences frequent earthquakes. However, no casualties or damages surfaced so far.
