Tremblor: A 6.1 Earthquake jolts Chile
New Delhi: A tremblor measuring a magnitude intensity of 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted Chile on Thursday, July 28, 2022.
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) took to Twitter and informed about the tremblor. “Earthquake of Magnitude 6.1 occurred on July 28, 2022, 09:45 IST on latitude -21.99 and longitude -70.27 with a depth of 50 km located 196 km South of Iquique, Chile,” the NCS wrote.
According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), “The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 65 km beneath the epicentre near Tocopilla, Antofagasta, Chile, after midnight on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at 12:15 am local time.”
“Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc,” it added.
