US President Joe Biden to host a summit with PM Modi and other ‘QUAD’ leaders
New Delhi: the US coordinator for the Indo-Pacific region Kurt Campbell on Tuesday said that “United States’ president Joe Biden will host a summit with Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and other leaders of the ‘QUAD’ countries.”
A group of four nations India, Australia, Japan, and the America Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) was established in 2007. The representatives for the four-member nations have met periodically since its establishment.
Campbell said “the summit should bring “decisive” commitments on vaccine diplomacy and infrastructure.” QUAD member states are consistently increasing their strength and bonding to counter steadily military strength of China.
In the First virtual summit of the QUAD this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that “the Quad has come of age and its agenda covering areas like vaccines, climate change, and emerging technologies makes it a force for global good.” In his opening remarks, Modi said that Quad shared values and promoting a secure, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga attended the virtual summit.
According to the media report, The Quad or Quadrilateral Security Dialogue was founded in 2004 in the aftermath of the Tsunami, became a diplomatic dialogue in 2007.
In November 2017, India, Japan, the US, and Australia gave shape to the long-standing proposal of forming the Quad to chalk out a new strategy to keep the critical sea routes in the Indo-Pacific free of any influence.
It was upgraded to the ministerial level in September 2019 when the foreign minister of the four countries held their first meeting in New York. International political experts from India, Australia, and Japan have predicted that QUAD could be a huge challenge for the Beijing government and on the other side, QUAD may force the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) to double its military and armed forces strength.
