New Delhi: Tennis players Karolina Pliskova, Aryna Sabalenka, and Iga Swiatek will march into the women’s Quarterfinals of the US Open 2022 after winning in the round of 16 matches at the Flushing Meadows on Tuesday, September 06, 2022.

Former US Open Finalist Pliskova of the Czech Republic defeated Victoria Azarenka of Belaraus 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-2 during round four of the US Open 2022 championship at the Flushing Meadows, New York. Pliskova will face seed no. 6 Aryna Sabalenka in the Quarterfinals on Wednesday, September 07, 2022 IST.

Sabalenka ousted No. 19 Danielle Collins in round of 16 with 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 points to enter her second US Open quarterfinals on Wednesday. Though Collins ran through the opening set with 12 wins and 8 unforced errors, Sabalenka held the serve 22-point game to lead 4-3.

Though Collins struggled to find momentum, Sabalenka took the opportunity and won a place in the Quarters despite losing two more games on Tuesday, September 06, 2022.

Meanwhile, World No. 1 Iga Swiatek defeated Germany’s Jule Niemeier 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 in the round of 16 at the Louis Armstrong Stadium on September 05, 2022. She will face Jessica Pegula of the United States of America on Wednesday.

This will be Swiatek’s third Grand Slam quarterfinal of the season.

After winning against Niemeier, Swiatek said, “Honestly at the beginning (of the second set) I felt like I’m just making a little bit less mistakes, but she also started playing less aggressively. It was easier for me to just play the ball in. Yeah, I think I started being more solid and I used a little bit more of the chances that I had.”

“I’m just proud that I didn’t lose hope. I had a hard time pushing my opponent back but I’m pretty glad it worked. I used my experience to keep my level the whole match,” she added.
