UP Cabinet approves third phase of Lucknow naval museum project

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Friday approved the third phase of the Nausena Shaurya Sangrahalaya project in Lucknow, including the development of a water body across 6.8 acres, with the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) set to oversee the operation and maintenance of the museum complex.

The Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved the transfer of the land by the LDA to the Tourism Department for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh.

The proposed facilities include replicas of naval ships, boating, light and sound shows, exhibitions on aquatic life and marine biodiversity, and a Curation and Experience Centre featuring digital galleries, audio-visual presentations, interactive exhibits and simulations.

Briefing reporters, Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said the project would help connect young people with India’s maritime heritage and make history, science and technology more engaging for students.

The museum is being developed by the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department in collaboration with the Indian Navy to showcase the country’s maritime history, naval capabilities and indigenous defence technology.

The first phase, Nausena Shaurya Vatika, was inaugurated on May 30, 2026, by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and CM Adityanath.

It displays components of warships and submarines, along with naval guns, anchors and propellers provided by the Indian Navy.

The proposed experience centre will also highlight the Navy’s role in maritime security, disaster relief and rescue operations. An aquarium is planned to help students and young visitors learn about marine life, according to an official statement.

So far, around Rs 69.10 crore has been sanctioned for the museum building, the Shaurya Vatika and curation-related works. Launched in 2025, the three-phase project is targeted for completion by 2027, it added.

Entry will be ticketed, with concessional rates for students and schoolchildren.

The LDA will manage the operation and maintenance of the Shaurya Vatika and, after their completion, the Curation and Experience Centre and water body, enabling a single agency to oversee maintenance, security, ticketing and visitor facilities, according to the statement.
