Tremblor: A 6.2 magnitude earthquake jolts Southern Iran
New Delhi: A strong earthquake with a magnitude intensity of 6.2 on the Richter scale jolted Sothern part of Iran on Saturday, July 02, 2022. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) posted the information on Twitter.
“Earthquake of magnitude 6.2 occurred on July 02, 2022, 04:55 IST on latitude 26.77 and longitude 55.35 with a depth of 35km located in Southern Iran,” the NCS tweeted.
According to reports, five people died while 44 were injured due to the earthquake. The aftershocks reportedly damaged several buildings. The government has deployed rescue teams in the Sayeh Khosh village, which is near the epicentre and is home to around 300 people in the Hormozgan province.
The province lies approximately 620 miles south of the capital city, Tehran. The earthquake was also felt by the neighbouring countries.
The region was earlier struck by a magnitude 6.0 tremblor on the Richter scale around 03 am on Saturday, July 02, 2022. “Earthquake of magnitude 6.0 occurred on July 02, 2022, 03:02 IST on latitude 26.86 and longitude 55.41 with a depth of 10 km located in Southern Iran,” the NCS had informed.
