Tragedy: Four infants die in Bhopal hospital blaze
Bhopal: Four infants died when a fire broke out in the special newborn care unit at Kamala Nehru Children’s Hospital in Bhopal late on Monday.
The Fatehgarh fire station in charge, Juber Khan, said, “The fire broke out around 9 pm, and 10 fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the flames. An electric short- circuit likely caused the fire.”
Worried parents rescued their children from the unit and rushed outside the building. A few agitated parents accused the hospital staff of running away instead of saving the kids. A bereaved parent shared how the ward was shrouded in smoke.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan mourned the tragedy and tweeted, “The untimely departure of children from the world is unbearable pain. I pray to God for providing peace to the departed souls. I pay my deepest condolences to the families of these children. I wish the injured receive a speedy recovery.”
He also ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident.
Former CM and Opposition Leader Kamal Nath termed the incident painful and demanded stern action against those responsible.
