Tennis: Due to injury, Novak Djokovic withdraws from the French Open
New Delhi, June 5: Tennis icon Novak Djokovic has been forced to withdraw from the 2024 French Open tournament because of an injury, the media reported.
The world no.1 Djokovic suffered a ‘torn medial meniscus in his right knee’ during the fourth-round win against Francisco Cerundolo.
“I am really sad to announce that I have to withdraw. My team and I had to make a tough decision after careful consideration and consultation.” he wrote on his social media accounts.
Novak,37, was supposed to face world no.7 Casper Ruud in the semi-finals. After this year’s French Open, Novak Djokovic will lose his status as the world no.1 and be replaced by youngster Jannik Sinner.
