Randeep Hooda performs last rites of Sarabjit’s sister Dalbir Kaur in Punjab
New Delhi: Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda attended the cremation of Dalbir Kaur, the sister of Sarabjit Singh, and even performed her last rites at her native village near Amritsar on Monday, June 27, 2022, as part of fulfilling his promise to Kaur.
Dalbir succumbed to cardiac arrest at her native village in Bhikhiwind near Amritsar on Sunday, June 26, 2022. Her brother, Sarabjit Singh had died in a Pakistan prison.
Hooda played the character of late Sarabjit Singh in 2016 film, Sarabjit, whereas Aishwarya Rai Bachchan played the character of Dalbir Kaur.
The biographical drama revolved around Dalbir’s fight to receive justice for her brother who was pronounced a death sentenced by a Pakistani court on charges of alleged terrorism and spying.
Hooda and Dalbir bonded over the course of the shooting and Dalbir told Randeep that she sees Sarabjit in him and had requested him to offer his shoulder before taking her body to a crematorium when she dies.
Randeep immediately left for her native village on hearing the news of her demise. He paid his last respects and also lit the funeral pyre as part of the funeral proceedings.
At an event marking three yearas of her brother’s death Dalbir Kaur had said, “I would like to tell Randeep that I have truly seen Sarabjit in him. I have a wish and I would like to take a promise from him that when I die, he should definitely give me kandha (shoulder). My soul will receive peace that Sarabjit gave me kandha.”
“It was a matter of great joy that I found my brother Randeep. In the film, he is not just a hero, but also my brother,” she had said.
