Ahmedabad: A healthy balance might look like: meeting your deadlines at work while still having time for friends and hobbies. Having enough time to sleep properly and eat well. not worrying about work when you’re at home.

One of the most serious threats to society’s mental health is the strain of an increasingly demanding work culture.

To every individual, a good work-life balance will mean something different. It’s not so much about dividing the time 50/50 between work and play as it is about making sure one is happy in both aspects of life. The following is an example of a good balance:

-keeping up with job deadlines yet also finding time for friends and interests
-having enough time to sleep and eat appropriately
-When you’re at home, you don’t have to worry about work.
-This might be tough if we have other obligations, such as caring responsibilities, a demanding boss, or health issues.

Working long hours or being under a lot of stress can become routine, especially if we have been doing it for a long time or if any of our coworkers are in the same position. If we don’t take a step back now and again, our assumptions and behaviors about work might become entrenched.

It’s not always feasible to make changes at work; for example, if you are on a zero-hours contract, you might not feel comfortable speaking out, or you might need to work long hours to pay your costs.

A recent study advises that people who can make adjustments should review their work-life balance regularly by following this :

1. Pause, and Ask yourself:
“What is giving me tension or dissatisfaction right now?” What impact does this have on my professional and personal life? What are my top priorities? What exactly am I missing out on? We seldom take the time to think about our job until a big life event occurs, such as the birth of a child or the death of a loved one. However, simply pausing and considering your priorities might assist you in determining if the way you’re living and working is good for you.

2. Pay close attention to your emotions: How do you feel now that you are more aware of your current situation? Are you happy and content?

3. Reprioritise: Consider what needs to be changed. For example, consider if working long hours is worth sacrificing family time or whether working weekends is worth sacrificing your social life. Think about your options: Is there anything you can adjust at work to accommodate your new priorities?

4. Make alterations: For example, you may request flexible hours, make sure you use all of your yearly leave, or refrain from reading your emails on weekends.
