Mumbai: Popular pop singing sensation and actor, Olivia Newton-John passed away during the early hours of Tuesday, August 09, 2022, at her ranch in Southern California, United States of America, after a long battle with cancer. She was 73.

Her husband, John Easterling, confirmed the news through social media. He took to Instagram and shared an official statement that read, “Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

“Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer,” the statement read.

“Olivia is survived by her husband John Easterling; daughter Chloe Lattanzi; sister Sarah Newton-John; brother Toby Newton-John; nieces and nephews Tottie, Fiona, and Brett Goldsmith; Emerson, Charlie, Zac, Jeremy, Randall, and Pierz Newton-John; Jude Newton-Stock, Layla Lee; Kira and Tasha Edelstein; and Brin and Valerie Hall,” it concluded.

Though Olivia’s cause of death was not ascertained, she was diagnosed with breast cancer that surfaced for the third time in 2017. The entire film fraternity is mourning the sudden demise of Newton-John. Several celebrities have paid condolences and tribute to the late actor on social media.

The Australian singer was known for starring alongside John Travolta in the classic film, Grease. Travolta paid tribute to the late actor on social media and wrote, “My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!”

The four-time Grammy winner singer-songwriter is known for top hits including Physical and You’re the One That I Want. The 12-time Grammy nominee shot to fame as a Pop Singer with Bob Dylan’s If Not For You in 1971. The song secured rank no. 25 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and made her an international sensation.

She won first Grammy in the best female country vocal performance for 1973 song, Let Me Be There and was honoured with the Medal of the Order of Australia eight years ago.
