Low Pressure over Bay of Bengal: IMD forecasts significant rainfall
New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted a significant amount of rainfall across the country on Tuesday, August 09, 2022, after a low pressure area had recently formed over the Bay of Bengal.
IMD took to Twitter and shared a spatial rainfall map on Tuesday, August 09, 2022.
“Under the influence of the systems, fairly widespread/widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall and thunderstorm and lightning very likely over Gangetic West Bengal during August 09 to August 11 and August 13, Jharkhand on August 10, 11, and 13, Arunachal Pradesh on August 09, Assam and Meghalaya on August 09 and 13, and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on August 09, 10, and August 13, 2022,” the IMD tweeted.
However, the weather department predicted fairly widespread rainfall, isolated very heavy rainfall, and isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Odisha during August 09 to August 13, 2022.
“Fairly widespread/widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Odisha during August 09-13; isolated very heavy rainfall also likely over Odisha on August 10 and 13, 2022; isolated extremely heavy rainfall also likely over Odisha on August 09, 2022,” the IMD wrote.
Meanwhile, the department also predicted rainfall in Gujarat and adjoining regions.
“Fairly widespread/widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Gujarat state during August 09-12; isolated very heavy rainfall likely over Gujarat state during August 09-11; isolated/ scattered extremely heavy rainfall also likely over Gujarat region on August 09 and over Saurashtra and Kutch on August 10, 2022,” the IMD wrote.
