PM Modi to visit Sikkim, launch projects worth over ₹4,000 crore during Statehood celebrations
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Sikkim on April 27–28 to attend the closing ceremony of the state’s 50th year of statehood celebrations and inaugurate, launch and lay foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹4,000 crore across multiple sectors ranging from connectivity and healthcare to tourism, education, and urban development.
The Prime Minister will arrive in Gangtok on April 27. The next day, he is scheduled to visit the Orchidarium, including the newly developed Swarnajayanti Maitri Manjari Park, a world-class orchid experience centre designed to showcase the state’s rich ecological and floral diversity.
Later, he will take part in the closing ceremony of Sikkim’s 50th year of statehood celebration at Paljor Stadium, where he will address a gathering and unveil a wide-ranging development package focused on inclusive growth.
In the healthcare sector, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for a 100-bed Ayurveda hospital at Yangang in Namchi district and inaugurate a 30-bed Integrated Sowa Rigpa Hospital at NIT Deorali to strengthen traditional and integrative medicine systems.
In the education sector, PM Modi will inaugurate the permanent campus of Sikkim University at Yangang, along with the administrative block of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University of Excellence at Chakung, Helen Lepcha Medical College at Socheygang, and Dentam Professional College in Gyalshing district.
He will also launch several academic infrastructure projects, including model residential schools at Hee Gyathang, a Model Degree College at Mangshila in Mangan district, and a monastic hostel-cum-classroom at Boomtar Gumpa in Namchi district. Additionally, IT-enabled educational infrastructure projects will be rolled out across 160 schools to strengthen digital learning and institutional capacity.
On the connectivity front, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation for two hinged double-lane steel arch bridges over the Teesta River at Sirwani and Lower Samdong, linking Namchi and Gangtok districts, and inaugurate the upgraded Birdhang–Namchi road via Kitchudumra to improve inter-district mobility.
He will also inaugurate improvements and upgrades to Gangtok’s power transmission and distribution network to enhance electricity reliability.
Urban development projects include the launch of the Jan Seva Sachivalaya (Mini Secretariat) at Lumsey, a Civil Service Officers Institute, housing initiatives under Sikkim Urban Garib Awas Yojana at Lingding, housing for police personnel and Grade C quarters at SAP Pangthang, and the foundation stone for Sadhbhav Mandap, a public utility at MG Marg.
On the environmental sector, the PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for sewerage rehabilitation in Singtam under river pollution abatement efforts and inaugurate the pollution abatement scheme of River Rani Chu through Roro Chu in Zone III, Gangtok.
Tourism and pilgrimage infrastructure will also receive a boost, with redevelopment of the Ridge Precinct in Gangtok, eco-tourism projects and pilgrimage infrastructure at Dodak in Soreng, and facilities linked to the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra at 18th Mile and Hangu lake, including a Yatri Niwas at Krishna Pranami Mangaldham in Naphing. An Eco-Pilgrimage Complex in Gyalshing district will also be initiated.
Additionally, PM Modi will inaugurate an IFFCO Processing Plant in Sikkim to support agro-processing and launch indoor cricket facilities at Mining, Rangpo in Pakyong district to promote sports infrastructure.
The visit coincides with Sikkim’s 50th statehood anniversary and highlights the Centre’s focus on accelerating sustainable development in the Northeast region.
