New Delhi: The National Capital Region (NCR) is reeling under intense summer conditions as a severe heatwave grips the region, pushing temperatures to uncomfortable levels.

According to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature on Monday is expected to reach 44 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may hover around 27 degrees Celsius. The day is likely to remain under the influence of a strong heatwave, significantly affecting daily life.

The weather department has also warned of strong surface winds during the afternoon, which could worsen the heatwave. Hot winds are expected to continue into the evening, prompting authorities to advise residents to avoid outdoor activity during peak hours and stay well hydrated to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Some relief, however, is expected from April 28 onward, with a gradual change in weather conditions. The maximum temperature may dip to around 41 degrees Celsius, with the minimum at 28 degrees Celsius, accompanied by the possibility of light rain, thunderstorms, and lightning.

Similar conditions are likely to continue on April 29, with temperatures easing further to around 40 degrees Celsius during the day and 26 degrees Celsius at night.

By April 30, partly cloudy skies and chances of thunderstorms are expected, with the maximum temperature dropping to about 38 degrees Celsius and the minimum to 24 degrees Celsius. For May 1 and May 2, skies are likely to remain mostly clear, with temperatures stabilising around highs of 40 degree Celsius and lows between 24 and 25degrees Celsius at night.
