New Delhi: French author Annie Ernaux has won the 2022 Nobel Prize for Literature “for the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements, and collective restraints of personal memory”, the award-giving body said on Thursday.
The Royal Swedish Academy awards the prestigious Prize worth 10 million Swedish crowns (USD 914,704).
On Wednesday, the Academy announced the 2022 Prize for Chemistry, won by a trio — Morten Meldal, Barry Sharpless, and Carolyn Bertozzi.
Barry Sharpless, who won it for his work on “click chemistry”, became only the fifth person to win the Prize for the second time. He first received it in 2001 for his work on “chirally catalyzed oxidation reactions.”
The other four who shared or won the Nobel Prize twice included Marie Curie (Physics 1903 and Chemistry 1911), Linus Pauling (Chemistry1954, and Peace,1962), John Bardeen (Physics 1956 and 1972), and Frederick Sanger (Chemistry 1958 and 1972).
Besides them, two organizations—the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) in 1917, 1944, and 1963, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in 1954 and 1981— were awarded the Nobel Peace Prizes multiple times.
