New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the Earth Observation Satellite (EOS-4) from Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV C52) on Monday, February 14, 2022.

ISRO Chief S Somnath said after the launch, “The mission of PSLV-C52 has been successfully completed.”

The satellite launched at 05:59 am from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, into the Sun’s orbit, which lies about 529 km above the earth.

Also known as Radar Imaging Satellite (RISAT), the EOS-04 is expected to provide high-quality images in all weather conditions for agriculture, forestry and plantation, flood mapping, soil moisture, and hydrology purposes.

It will complement the observations made by RESOURCESAT, CARTOSAT, and RISAT-2B series and collect data observations as images in C-band. The EOS-4 has an operational life of a decade.

EOS-04 was the first PSLV launch this year, after the failure of the EOS-03 mission launch in 2021. ISRO had declared the EOS-03 mission a failure due to technical discrepancies within the system.

The Space Organisation plans to conduct another PSLV mission in March 2022 to launch OCEANSAT-3 and INS 2B Anand.
