IMD Predicts Rainfall, Snowfall, Hailstorms in North India till Feb. 04

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted widespread to isolated rainfall in the Northern states of India, namely Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, on Monday, January 31, 2022. The states will experience rainfall between February 02 and February 04, 2022, due to the direct effects of El Nino.

The IMD took to Twitter and shared a physical map of India with a caption that read, “Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall/snowfall very likely over Western Himalayan Region during February 02 to February 04, 2022. Isolated hailstorms likely over Jammu division and Himachal Pradesh on February 2 and February 3, 2022, and over Uttarakhand on February 03 and February 04, 2022.”

“Isolated light rainfall very likely over Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on February 2, 2022; Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh February 03 and February 04, 2022, with its peak intensity on February 03, 2022,” it tweeted.

The rainfall will occur despite the ongoing cold weather conditions. “Cold day conditions in isolated pockets very likely over north Uttar Pradesh during next 24 hours and abate from tomorrow.”

Talking about the weather, the IMD wrote, “Dense to very dense fog in isolated pockets in night/morning hours very likely over Terai belt of Uttar Pradesh during next 48 hours. Dense fog in isolated pockets over Bihar during next 48 hours, and Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Haryana during next 24 hours.”
