New Delhi: The Brazilian woman football team defeated the Indian team by 6-1 during the International Women’s Football Tournament 2021, at the Amazon Arena in Manaus, Brazil, on Friday.

The match began with Brazil in the lead with defender Daiane Rodrigues giving a long pass to skipper Debinha Miri as Indian keeper Aditi Chauhan saved the goal. But Debinha did a rebound to score the first point for the team.

India counter-attacked at the 7th minute when Manisha Kalyan picked the ball from her left and ran before finishing into the post-bottom corner, equalizing the scores at 1-1. Though Manisha had another chance to score at the 26th minute, the host team blocked the goal. Meanwhile, Brazilian Ariadina Borges gave a right-wing cutback to Giovana Costa, who scored a net.

The Brazilian team swiftly snatched the lead in the 2nd half with Ariadina scoring in the 52nd minute, followed by a dramatic roof net by Kerolin Ferraz 2 minutes later. Brazilian substitute Geyse Ferreira aggressively blocked an incoming shot and smashed a net at the 76th minute.

Exactly 5 minutes later, Ariadina scored another point of the match as a rebound after Aditi saved mid-fielder Formiga Mota’s shot and led her team into victory.

The match marked 43-year-old Formiga’s final appearance and international retirement after a career that spanned more than 25 years.

India will next face Chile on November 29 and Venezuela on December 02, 2021.
