EU not discussing gas embargo against Russia: Confirms Austrian Chancellor
New Delhi: An embargo imposed against Russian gas supplies will not be part of the next sanctions package of the European Union on Moscow, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer told reporters on Tuesday.
“The gas embargo will not be a topic, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has made this clear as well,” he said, adding that “a gas embargo will not be an issue in the next sanctions package.”
Russian oil supplies are much easier to compensate for than gas deliveries, Nehammer noted.
Earlier, Austrian authorities said the republic was 80 percent dependent on Russian gas, due to which it would not support a gas embargo. However, the Austrian side supports the EU’s oil embargo as it is less dependent on Russian crude.
In the opinion of the world’s political experts, Russia is preparing for all the difficulties that have been created by the western countries’ sanctions after its military operations in Ukraine. Sanctions on Russia not damaging Russia only, but it is creating trouble for the other countries as well as many European countries are facing trouble in trade, and they are heavily dependent on Russia for many products and goods.
