Southwest Monsoon advances over Karnataka and parts of Bay of Bengal: IMD

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted the advancement of the Southwest monsoon in the interiors of the country and over parts of Bay of Bengal after the annual moisture-laden winds hit the coastal state of Kerala on May 29, 2022.

Informing about the advancement, the IMD wrote, “Southwest Monsoon has advanced over some more parts of central Arabian Sea, some parts of Karnataka, entire Kerala, some more parts of Tamil Nadu, entire southeast Bay of Bengal, some more parts of southwest Bay of Bengal, most parts of East-central Bay of Bengal, some parts of West-central, and Northeast Bay of Bengal.”

The department also shared a physical map of India and coordinates indicating the advancement of the Southwest monsoon. “The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) now passes through Lat.15°N/ Long.60°E, Lat.15°N/Long.70°E, Karwar, Chikmagaluru, Bengaluru, Dharmapuri, Lat. 10°N/ Long. 80°E, Lat. 11.0°N/ Long. 83°E, 14.0°N/86°E, 20.0°N/91°E, and 22.0°N/93°E,” the IMD informed.

The department also revealed favourable monsoon conditions in other parts of the country. “Conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, some more parts of Karnataka, some parts of Konkan and Goa, some more parts of Tamil Nadu and remaining parts of southwest Bay of Bengal, some more parts of west-central Bay of Bengal, northeast Bay of Bengal, north-eastern states and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during next 2-3 days,” it added.
