Doping: Olympian pole vaulter Thiago Braz banned for 16 months

New Delhi, May 29: The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has banned Brazilian pole vaulter Thiago Braz da Silva for 16 months in an alleged doping case, the media reported on Tuesday.

Braz tested positive for Ostarine while he was competing at the Diamond League meeting in July 2023.

“Athletes from Brazil, including Mr. Braz, have been specifically educated about the dangers surrounding the use of supplements from compound pharmacies in Brazil,” AIU chief Brett Clothier said.

Braz, 30, said he unknowingly consumed the substances that are banned in sports and added he will appeal against the ban with the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).

Due to the ban, he will miss the Olympic Games in Paris in July-August 2024.

He won the Olympic title at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and bronze at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
