New Delhi: India is facilitating Afghan Sikhs and Hindus at the highest level, yet they have missed flights twice in order to travel to the US or Canada, Puneet Singh Chandhok, The president of the Indian World Forum said.

Some of the Sikh leaders who are currently in Afghanistan had hinted that they preferred to go to the US or Canada than coming to India.

Last week, the Canadian government had announced that it will permanently re-settle 20,000 “vulnerable” Afghans, including Sikhs and Hindus.

Afghan Sikhs appealed to the United Sikh Organisation and the Sikhs in Canada and the US to evacuate and provide them shelter in the US or Canada.

In the video, the Sikhs who had taken refuge at the Karte Parwan Gurdwara in Kabul, soon after the Taliban escalated its offensives in the country, are expressing their desire to migrate to the US and Canada. The group of Sikhs, with folded hands, appeal to the Sikh organizations in Canada and America to evacuate the 285 Sikhs stuck in the Gurudwara.

The government of India announced its plan to evacuate its citizens from Afghanistan, following the Taliban takeover of the country, New Delhi had also made it clear that members of religious minority communities including Hindus and Sikhs will also be repatriated.

In the past few days, over a hundred Afghan Sikhs and Hindus including some prominent politicians from the community have been brought to India under the mission codenamed ‘Operation Devi Shakti.’

The bad news for Afghan Sikhs is Canadian general on Thursday said that Canada has ended evacuations from Kabul’s airport.

General Wayne Eyre, the country’s acting chief of Defence Staff, said all the other countries have to leave the airport before the Americans can wrap up their mission. Canadian military flights evacuated about 3,700 people.

The experts of International politics also believe that the government of India may end its evacuation program before August 31, and it will be so tough for India if it continues.
