Health Minister Highlights Vaccination Efforts on World Polio Day

New Delhi: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda today said that India’s polio-free status, certified by the World Health Organisation in 2014, is a testament to the country’s sustained commitment to immunisation. He said this in a social media post on the occasion of World Polio Day.

Mr Nadda emphasised the need to remain vigilant against the risk of poliovirus importation and strengthen efforts to protect every child. He highlighted that through the Universal Immunization Programme and supplementary vaccination campaigns, the government continues to ensure that children under five receive additional doses of the Oral Polio Vaccine, reaching even the most remote and underserved communities.

The Health Minister stressed that maintaining high immunisation coverage, strengthening disease surveillance and ensuring that no child is left unprotected remain key priorities in the fight against polio.
