11 Indian and 9 foreign artists to participate in ASEAN-India Artists Camp 2022
New Delhi: The second edition of the ASEAN-India Artists’ Camp was inaugurated on Monday, October 10, 2022. The event is organised by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Seher to commemorate 30 years of dialogue relations between India and the 10 ASEAN countries.
Oceans of Connectivity is the theme of the event. The theme is centered around oceans that connect the ASEAN countries with one another.
Founder and Director of Seher, Sanjeev Bhargava, said, “The idea of such a collaboration is so that people of ASEAN countries get an opportunity to converse and get more involved with one another and also with people of India. The idea behind this artists’ camp, to be held in Udaipur, is to bring artists and intellectuals under one roof so that they can perform in harmony. The camp intends to enhance people-to-people and cultural connections between India and ASEAN countries and forms an integral part of the current ASEAN-India engagements.”
“The selection of artists is made depending on their talent and also on how versatile they are with their thoughts and the brush. The camp is not a competition per se but it aims to nurture the feeling of oneness within participants of all ASEAN countries. Whether this humanity, love, compassion, and friendship can be represented on the canvas or not is an important criterion for us. There is no age bar at the camp but we have increased the number of women artists so as to give them a fair representation at the event,” he added.
Talking about the list of participants, Bhargava said, “We have selected one artist from each member country and 11 artists will represent India since we are the host country.”
Meanwhile, Saurabh Kumar, Secretary of MEA (East), said, “This camp is an important youth-centric activity to bring together the confluence of creative energy from the 10 ASEAN countries and India, as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of ASEAN India dialogue relations.”
The nine-day camp will take place in Udaipur, where artists will create inspiring artwork and engage in interactions and panel discussions on various topics surrounding art and culture during their stay in the host country.
The artworks will be exhibited at the venue for people and the local city administration on October 19, 2022.
