New Delhi: According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the Bengaluru district of Karnataka faced heavy rainfall that caused water-logging in several parts of the city.

The thunderstorms and lighting accompanied the heavy rains and led to the stoppage of the Green Metro line at the Mantri Mall Station. The line suffered power failure due to thunderstorms before being restored. All the trains on the line were stopped for 15 minutes.

The J.P. Nagar, Jayanagar, Lalbagh, Chickpet, Majestic, Malleswaram, Rajajinagar, Yeshwantpur, MG Road, Cubbon Park, Vijayanagar, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Kengeri, Magadi Road, and Mysore Road among other areas, were adversely affected by the heavy downpour.

The showers unleashed a flood-like situation that disrupted regular activities and led to traffic jams across Bengaluru.

“Coastal and Southern Karnataka will likely experience heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning due to the southwest monsoon advancing into the Andaman and Nicobar islands,” the IMD informed.

The department also issued an orange alert for urban and rural Bengaluru, thereby predicting heavy rainfall to continue in the city for the next 4-5 days.
