Kanpur: In the middle of the rising risk of Omicron infected cases in the Nation, Allahabad High Court appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Election Commission to consider the postponement of elections in Uttar Pradesh in view of the third wave of COVID-19 and the rising number of Omicron cases.

Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav urged the Election Commission to immediately issue directions to stop political parties from organizing political rallies and meetings. The HC suggested that instead of holding large public gatherings, and election campaigns are possible via television and newspapers.

The High Court requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to postpone rallies and meetings because there is life there is hope.

However, Prime Minister Modi chaired a meeting on the Covid-19 situation in the country and said “We should be Satark and Saavdhan. The fight against the pandemic is not over, And the need for continued adherence to COVID safe behavior is of paramount importance even today.”

The PM directed officials that the Central Government should send teams to states with low vaccination, rising cases, insufficient health infrastructure to assist them to improve the situation.

An analysis by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has found that people infected with Omicron were 50-70 percent less likely to need hospitalization compared with other Covid-19 variants like Delta.
