Gati Shakti: PM Modi launches Rs.100 lakh cr plan to connect economic hubs
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched the PM Gati Shakti Yojna at Pragati Maidan in the capital as the National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity of important economic centers across the country.
Under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, the ambitious plan aims to generate employment opportunities, decrease the cost of logistics, improve supply chains, globally launch local industries, and give a push for the goal of a $5-trillion economy by investing in projects under the $1.5 Trillion National Infrastructure Pipeline.
Modi, who had announced the massive infrastructure project on Independence Day last year, reviewed the master plan and the new ITPO exhibition complex model at Pragati Maidan before launching the scheme.
He said the 25-year-plan will give speed and strength to the development plans of the 21st century, and help in the timely completion of these plans.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the initiative will provide a new direction towards creating infrastructure and give a new pace to the existing projects.
The PM Gati Shakti Yojana will act as a centralized portal for existing initiatives planned by 16 Union Ministries, where departmental activities will be visible to other departments for comprehensive planning and project execution through coordination and cross-section interactions.
The National Master Plan will connect economic zones like infrastructure, defense corridors, electronic parks, agricultural, textile, pharmaceutical, and fishing industries. It will also assist different ministries in identifying project loops, select optimum routes for commuting and transportation, and synchronize various government departments.
The scheme will use GIS-based spatial planning tools, analytical records, and ISRO imagery to be developed by the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics (BiSAG-N). These satellite images will report ground progress at regular intervals.
