New Delhi: Dusty and unclean registration plates or those hiding numbers on vehicles can be fined Rs. 2,000, according to an order issued by Delhi’s Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Muktesh Chander on Saturday last.

Such number plates will be viewed as defective. Other vehicle documents will also be examined and fined in case of deficiency.

“Big vehicles like dumpers and mixers often hide number plates to avoid traffic police. Besides, drivers in New Delhi try to escape from crimes by hiding their number plates. Thus an order against such drivers was issued on August 28,” Chander said.

A special operation started on August 28 to nab those who drove with hidden number plates on their vehicles. The campaign will continue till September 4.

The Delhi Police informed the citizens of the new rules via social media on Sunday. The police are generating awareness on number plates through social media platforms.
