Covid-19: New Delhi to reopen educational institutions from September 1
New Delhi: The national capital is all set to reopen schools, colleges, and coaching institutes from September 1 with 50 percent capacity, provided these institutions adhere to the Covid-19 appropriate norms.
Since the government has allowed educational institutions to function with 50 percent student capacity per class, they will have to prepare multiple timetables to accommodate the classroom occupancy limit. However, the online classes will continue as usual.
Announcing the reopening of campuses on Monday, Delhi Education Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said, “No child will be forced to attend physical classes, and there will be no compulsory attendance.”
Therefore, the students can expect simultaneous learning in the form of both physical and online classes. They can also choose to attend either form of teaching. Furthermore, parental consent for attending physical lectures will be mandatory, and only those with a signed letter from parents will be allowed for offline classes.
Some of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) recommended by a panel by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) include social distancing in the form of spaced seating capacity, increased facilities for cleaning and sanitation, availability of a quarantine room, and random collection of student and staff samples at regular intervals.
