Kareena-as-Sita: Netizens outraged over her role, “Rs.12 crore” fee
Mumbai: Netizens have expressed outrage over speculations that Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan has been selected to play the role of Sita, wife of Lord Rama, in an upcoming movie, and that she will be paid Rs. 12 crore to essay the role.
Their anger was evident on microblogging site Twitter after this ‘news’ broke out on social media recently. Trending the #BoycottKareena, Twiteratti expressed disappointment and concern over ‘Nawab’ Saif Ali Khan’s wife essaying the titular role of the Hindu goddess.
In Ramanand Sagar’s blockbuster TV serial “Ramayana”, Sita’s role had been played by Deepika Chikhalia to perfection.
Some also took potshots at Kareena for naming her child after medieval Muslim warrior Taimur who had wreaked havoc in India in the 14th century.
While some netizens disapproved of Kareena-as-Sita, others suggested alternatives like Kangana Ranaut, Yami Gautam, Anushka Shetty, Keerthy Suresh, and Tapsee Pannu to be considered for the main role of Sita.
Directed by Alaukik Desai, ‘Sita-the Incarnation’ will be a mythological fantasy film. While it is widely speculated that Kareena Kapoor Khan has been approached for the role of Sita, the filmmakers, through an online post, have clarified that the rumour is nothing but a whiff of thin air. They also requested the people to ‘not get blown away with the wind.’
The film is still in pre-production stage of development. “As soon as the cast is finalized, we will be happy to share with you all”, the producers said, expressing the hope to put an end to widespread public anger in the form of trolling and hatred by fans all over social media.
Some have, however, dubbed the entire controversy as a publicity stunt.
