When Narendra Modi invited his peon to inaugurate the Gujarat Secretariat building
Ahmedabad: K Srinivas, an IAS Officer, recalled a moment when Narendra Modi was supposed to inaugurate new Gujarat Secretariat building but instead invited his peon to inaugurate the building. Srinivas said that appreciating the efforts of the smallest man in nation building was in the heart of everything that Modi did.
In a video Srinivas narrated the entire instance how Narendra Modi asked him to find out and invite the oldest peon working in the secretariat to inaugurate the new building.
Secretariat’s senior most Class IV employee, Shri SavjibhaiDamor lit the ceremonial lamp on the occasion in the presence of Narendra Modi.
Srinivas said, “When he was the Chief Minister, we had built new set of buildings in Gujarat Secretariat. They were called SwarnimSankul I and II because Gujarat state had turned 50. When the question of inaugurating this new building came up, CM asked me to identify the name of the oldest peon who had been working here in the Gujarat Secretariat. Call him. He will be the one who will inaugurate this building. Hence, this old gentleman, who served in the secretariat cut the ribbon.”
‘Appreciating the efforts of the smallest man in nation building’- This lies at the heart of everything that Modi does.

Other incident is.
Former Union Finance Secretary, Hasmukh Adhia, recalled an instance when Narendra Modi had appreciated special quality of a peon and even brought it to his notice. The instance happened when Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Hasmukh Adhia said that Narendra Modi has the ability to appreciate the good qualities in people. He recalled when one day, after meeting him, Adhia was about to leave, he pressed the bell and a peon came to pick up the files. But after the peon went out, what Narendra Modi told Adhia completely took him by surprise.
Adhia recalled, “He asked me if I knew this fellow (the peon). I said no. He said his name is Pratap. His handwriting is very beautiful. You ask him to write something for you. Whenever you have to write a beautiful invitation card, you can use him.”
Adhia said that he felt ashamed that being in senior positions too we sometimes don’t even know the names of peons around us while he is the Chief Minister of a state but he knows the personal quality of his peon also.
With Modi, nothing goes unnoticed!
