Kolkata: A major fire broke out at a slum cluster at Baisnabseth Lane in Jorabagan in north Kolkata on Friday night. Six fire tenders rushed to the spot with the fire brigade stating that four more tenders are being readied.

However, no casualties or injuries to anyone have been reported so far in the incident.

Around 8 to 10 fire engines are currently on the spot to douse the fire. Since most of the houses have tin roofs and plastic thus the fire is spreading rapidly.

The area is densely populated and around 30-40 shanties have been gutted in the fire and people from the nearby buildings have been evacuated.

Police said that the exact cause of the fire is being ascertained through a cylinder blast or a short circuit is not being ruled out. Fire department officers stated their objective was to first control the fire from spreading before arresting the same.
