Ahmedabad: Celebrating the 20 years of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summits he launched as Chief Minister in 2003 to rebrand the western state as an investment destination, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said India will soon emerge as a global economic powerhouse.
Since 2003, the Gujarat Government organized nine biennial editions of this Summit. The 10th edition will be held from January 10 to 12, 2024.
Addressing a gathering of the business community to mark the success achieved in two decades, PM Modi said the objective of his government now is to make India a global growth engine.
The tiny seeds of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit sown 20 years ago have today developed into a big tree, he asserted, adding it is now a program of bonding.
“We organized the Vibrant Gujarat Summit to make the state a growth engine of India. After 2014, our aim has been to make India a global growth engine…We have reached a growth phase from where India will soon emerge as a global economic powerhouse,” the PM said.
“It is my guarantee to you that in a few years from now, you will see India emerging among the top three economies of the world,” the PM said.
He also highlighted how from a humble beginning, the Vibrant Gujarat events have matured into an institution and many states later followed it by organizing their own investment summits.
“Swami Vivekananda said every work passes through three stages: first, it is mocked, then it faces opposition and finally it is accepted, especially when the idea is ahead of time,” he said explaining how the Vibrant Gujarat events passed through different stages.
PM Modi also remarked that Vibrant Gujarat events became a success when the Central Government (under the previous UPA dispensation) was “indifferent” to the industrial progress of the state.
