‘US welcomes India’s emergence as leading global power’

New Delhi: The United States of America welcomes India’s emergence as a leading global power and its role as a net security provider in the region, States Department spokesperson Ned Price said on Tuesday.

The US defined India as its one of the most important partners in the Indo-Pacific region. Secretary of the State Tony Blinken discussed with Indian counterpart External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar the common international issues, including Myanmar. Blinken expressed concern over the military coup and the importance of rule of law and the democratic process in Myanmar.

Price said that “Tony Blinken and S Jaishankar discussed regional developments, including the value they attach to the US-India cooperation across the Indo-Pacific. India and the US look forward to expanded regional cooperation, including through the Quad, and to address the challenges of Covid and climate change.”

The Biden Administration looks to cooperate with India on international challenges including diplomatic relations and security issues, counterterrorism, peacekeeping, the environment, health, education, technology, agriculture, space and oceans.

Trade between India and the US remained around USD 146 billion in 2019 which shows that the US remained India’s largest and most important trading partner so far.

On the Indians in the US and Indian-Americans, Price said that “Across this country, nearly four million Indian Americans call the United States home, contributing in their communities and proudly serving their country in uniform.”
