UNGA: India for observer status to International Solar Alliance
New Delhi: India on Saturday introduced a draft resolution in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for granting observer status to the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
New Delhi’s Permanent Representative to the UN T.S. Tirumurti shared a picture of the event on Twitter and wrote, “Another milestone for International Solar Alliance (ISA) as India introduces a draft resolution in UNGA for granting observer status to the ISA.”
“I said in the Assembly that ISA, through its efforts towards just and fair energy solutions, will usher in a new era of green energy diplomacy,” he added.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former French President Francois Hollande had jointly launched the ISA at the 21st session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP21) in Paris, France, on November 30, 2015.
Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and representatives of 120 member nations had attended the event to support the alliance and take part by dedicating their efforts towards promoting solar energy.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, “The ISA aims to contribute to implementing the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015 through rapid and massive deployment of solar energy.”
