New Delhi: A severe earthquake with a magnitude intensity of 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted the Vanuatu during the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 12, 2022. The tremblor struck around 02:00 am when the citizens were asleep.

The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) shared seismograph on Twitter, highlighting the affected and the adjoining regions.

“Earthquake of magnitude 6.1 occurred on July 12, 2022, at 02:40 am IST on latitude 18.26 and longitude 169.24 with a depth of 10 km located 112km ESE of Port-Vila, Vanuatu,” the NCS informed.

No initial reports of damages or casualties surfaced so far. As per reports, officials may temporarily shut down transportation infrastructure in the tremor zone to check for damage.
