New Delhi: The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced the 79th Golden Globe Awards to be a private event, with no celebrities or media, through their social media account on Friday, January 7, 2022.

“This year’s event is going to be a private event and will not be live-streamed. We will be providing real-time updates on winners on the Golden Globes website and our social media,” the HFPA tweeted on Friday.

The move comes after several international festivals and awards were cancelled or postponed due to the increasing number of omicron cases in the States.

The HFPA had earlier revealed plans of a toned-down ceremony without an audience and red carpet.

“The HFPA will announce the winners of the 79th Golden Globe Awards on January 9, 2022, at 6 pm PST,” the official Golden Globes Account tweeted.

Famous rapper and actor Snoop Dogg had revealed the award nominations last month. Lady Gaga (House of Gucci), Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos), Will Smith (King Richard), Kristen Stewart (Spencer), and Denzel Washington (The Tragedy of Macbeth) are some of the nominees. The television drama Succession has 5 nominations.

The HFPA introduced 21 new members, including 6 representatives of the black community, and introduced diversity and sexual harassment training for members to avoid any discrepancies.

Though the Golden Globes are considered one of the most prestigious awards in Hollywood, the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) dropped its plans to host the live broadcast as Netflix also cut off from the event citing issues with the 2021 edition.
