Mumbai: The production for Telugu films came to a standstill since August 01, 2022. The Tollywood industry will reportedly resume shooting from next week onwards.

The decision to temporarily stop shooting came as a result of the multifold production costs in the recent times, whereas theatrical revenues dropped to a new low, especially during the post-pandemic times. People refrain from attending theatres due to high ticket prices and health reasons after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Film Chamber and Active Producers Guild reportedly decided to revise a remuneration practice and said that no actor will be entitled to day-wise remunerations from now on, as opposed to what was practiced earlier.

The Guild agreed on the 8-week window for any project’s OTT release and reportedly decided that no film will release on the OTT platform before 8 weeks of its theatrical release.

Meanwhile, the Producers Council proposed to decrease ticket prices from Rs. 100 to Rs. 70 in general theatres and from Rs. 150 to Rs. 120 in multiplexes, inclusive of GST, though nothing was made official yet.

They had released a press note that read, “Post-Pandemic with the changing revenue situations and increasing costs, it has become important for producers to discuss all the issues we are facing as a community of filmmakers. It is our responsibility to better our ecosystem and ensure that we are releasing our films in a healthy environment. In this regard, all produce members of the Guild have voluntarily decided to withhold shootings from August 01, 2022, to sit in discussions until we find workable resolutions.”
