SAARC Diary: Bhutan Princess, Students Pray for India
NEW DELHI, May 21: Princess Ashi Sonam Dechen Wangchuck of the Royal Bhutan family, President of the Governing Council, and the JSW Law School family offered prayers and chanted the six-syllable Avalokiteshvara (Boddhisattva of Compassion prayer) along with the students at the Simtokha Dzong for the well-being of the Indian people.
The prayer was followed by a letter of solidarity to the citizens of India through the Indian Embassy in Bhutan.
The letter read, “As India and her people face a second wave of the COVID-19, we, the Jigme Singye School of Law family (JSW Law), would like to give our heartfelt prayers. India is confronted with an unprecedented crisis with far-reaching human, social, and economic consequences. COVID-19 is genuinely a test for all nations, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and individuals who have already suffered.
“India is not only a friendly neighbour to Bhutan, but also a close friend of the JSW Law School. Aside from being a benefactor, the close links with Indian institutions and personal relations that have been built make it even more urgent that we act now. While we are unable to provide financial or physical assistance, we have decided to reach out to the citizens of India through the Indian Embassy in Bhutan to express our strong solidarity and deep prayers.
“We are with the people of India during this tough period as a close friend and neighbour, and we are sure that India can resolve this with courage and fortitude. As a token of our support, we would like to share a short video that documents our heartfelt prayers for divine intervention to assist India in resolving this crisis. The letter ended stating “we are confident in India’s ability to win this battle against an intangible foe. The JSW Law Family is assured that our prayers will assist India in winning this war as early as possible.”
