New Delhi: Beating worldwide gloom because of the expanding shadows of recession in the world economy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday will launch a ‘Rozgar Mela’, an ambitious drive to recruit 10 lakh people, via videoconference, and appointment letters will be given to 75,000 candidates during the ceremony, the PMO said on Thursday.
In June this year, PM Modi reviewed the status of human resources in all departments and ministries and instructed them to start recruitment of 10 lakh eligible candidates in a “mission mode” in the next 18 months.
Following up on this, the PMO said on Saturday it will be a significant step towards fulfilling the PM’s continuous commitment to providing job opportunities for the youth and ensuring the welfare of citizens.
All ministries and departments are working towards filling up existing vacancies against sanctioned posts in a “mission mode.”
The new recruits, selected from across the country, will join 38 ministries or departments of the Government of India. The appointees will join the government at various levels in Group A and B (Gazetted), Group B (Non-Gazetted), and Group C.
The posts on which appointments are being made include the central armed force personnel, sub-inspectors, constables, LDC, steno, PAs, income tax inspectors, and MTS, among others.
These recruitments are being done by ministries and departments either by themselves or through recruiting agencies such as UPSC, SSC, and the Railway Recruitment Board. For expeditious recruitment, selection processes have been simplified and made tech-enabled, the PMO said.
The unemployment rate in urban India for those aged 15 years and above slipped from 10. 3 percent in the third quarter of 2020-21 to 8.7 percent in October-December 2021, according to a Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) report by the National Statistical Office.
Joblessness was high in October-December 2020, mainly because of the staggering impact of the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions in the country imposed to curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
Opposition parties have been attacking the government over the issues of rising prices and unemployment and flagging the high number of vacancies in different government organizations.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also been, during his ongoing padayatra, targeting the NDA government on these issues.
