New Delhi: The summit of leaders of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) nations – the United States, Australia, Japan, and India – will be held in Tokyo on May 24. US President Biden will visit Japan on May 22-24, and he will meet Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on May 23 and take part in the summit of the QUAD nations’ leaders on May 24.

The White House has announced that Biden will also hold bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida during the visit.

In September last year, Biden had hosted Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, and then Japanese PM Yoshihide Suga at the White House for the first-ever in-person Leaders’ Summit of the Quad.

China reacted to the upcoming quad meeting and said, this bloc of Indo-Pacific democracies has been created to counter China. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin commented on the trip, saying the countries cooperating should help promote regional peace instead of engaging in exclusive cliques that undermine mutual trust and cooperation among regional countries.
