Phase 6 Lok Sabha Polls, Live Updates: Voting begins for 59 seats across Delhi and six states

A total of 59 seats in the seven states of Uttar Pradesh (14 seats), Madhya Pradesh (8 seats), West Bengal (8 seats), Jharkhand (4 seats), Haryana (10 seats), Bihar (8 seats) and the national capital territory of Delhi (7 seats) has gone on polls this Sunday in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections.

Over 10.17 crore people are eligible to cast their votes across the 59 constituencies going to the polls today. The Election Commissioner has set up over 1.13 lakh polling stations, and voting — which began at 7 am — will be on till 6 pm in most constituencies.

Amid heavy police security, voting began in West Bengal’s eight parliamentary constituencies in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections on Sunday.

The eight constituencies that went for polling are Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram (ST), Midnapore, Purulia, Bankura and Bishnupur (SC). They all are spread over East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Purulia, Bankura and part of East Burdwan districts.

Ahead of the commencement of polling in the state, three BJP workers were attacked in separate incidents in the state, officials confirmed.

In East Medinipur, BJP workers Ananta Guchait andRanjit Maity were shot at last night in Bhagabanpur area. The injured were admitted to a hospital soon after the incident and are undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, BJP worker Raman Singh was found dead in Gopiballabpur area of Jhargram.
